POSITION SUMMARY:

Pharmacy technicians assist and support licensed pharmacists in providing health care and medications to patients. Pharmacy technicians must have a broad knowledge of pharmacy practice, and be skilled in the techniques required to order, stock, package, compound and otherwise prepare medications.

The Lead Pharmacy Technician is responsible for overseeing the duties of technicians and other supportive personnel for the pharmacy department. This position will assist the Director of Pharmacy to ensure all appropriate legal, regulatory, and accrediting requirements are maintained. Maintain a professional presence throughout the hospital and work with interdisciplinary teams to improve patient care. Assure pharmacy services and activities are carried out to meet goals and standards of both Steward Health Care and Texas Vista Medical Center. The Pharmacy Technician Lead will work Monday through Friday with 1 scheduled evening per week and weekends in which coverage may be needed either scheduled or emergently.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

‹‹‹‹‹‹High school degree or equivalent. Previous experience as a hospital pharmacy technician; ACPE or ASHP accredited course in compounding sterile preparations Current Pharmacy Technician certification and registered as pharmacy technician in good standing with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy, IV Sterile Compounding Certification. Proficiency in Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Pyxis ES, Meditech Expanse, Pharmacy Keeper, Pestle, and aptitude to learn new software and systems. 5+ years of experience working as a pharmacy technician, 5+ years of hospital pharmacy experience, experience managing and leading a team of pharmacy technicians.
