Financial Counselor Admitting

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of the Director of Admitting the Financial Counselor/Pre-certification Coordinator is responsible for determining the patient financial responsibility and collecting the patient portion and making financial arrangements with the patients adhering to company policy. The Financial Counselor/Pre-certification Coordinator will assist clients with the financial assistance process. Responsible for initiating pre-cert and providing notification to the insurance companies for patients admitted to hospital for scope of observation or admit. Responsible for assuring insurance benefits are verified; responsible for keeping the team aware of providing supporting clinical data for the admissions. Responsible for obtaining updated changes to policy as it refers to manage care insurances and providing this information to case management team.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

High school graduate or equivalent.

Possesses skills in utilization of office equipment to include computer, copier, fax machines and online programs. Previous training of insurance verification required. Minimum two years of obtaining authorizations for Managed Care and government payers preferred. Previous third party collections to include knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid, knowledge of HIPAA guidelines and EMTALA compliance. Previous collection experience, excellent customer service & communication skills required.
